The highest authority in Johkula is the 27-member municipal council. It decides on finances, the tax rate, land-use plans and major investments. The council has set the tax rate six times in a row, each time unanimously 27–0 at 0.00.
Bodies
- Municipal council – 27 members, chair Riitta Mäkelä. Meets about six times a year in the Council Chamber.
- Municipal board – 9 members, chair Jari Heikkinen. Meets every other Monday.
- Education and culture committee – early childhood education, schools, library, sports, culture and youth.
- Technical committee – building control, zoning, property, water and waste.
- Vitality committee – business, tourism and cooperation with Visit Johkula.
- Youth council, council for older people and disability council.
